A real health check for every drive.
DriveChk reads what your SSDs and hard disks report about themselves — wear, reallocated sectors, errors, temperature — and turns it into a verdict you can act on, with the measurement behind every finding shown.

Three kinds of check
What the drive already knows about itself. What it finds when you ask it to test its own media. And what is genuinely unreadable right now, which only a full surface scan can answer. Most tools do only the first.
Every verdict is explainable
No opaque score. Each finding names the measurement behind it, what that measurement means, and what to do — in plain language rather than raw attribute numbers.
Each check is read against the last
A counter that moved since you last looked matters more than its absolute value. Two reallocated sectors that appeared this week are a worse sign than fifty that have not moved in three years.
What it checks
Two numbers, deliberately
Health is how much margin the drive has left. Status is where it is heading. A disk with two reallocated sectors is at 90% and still worth attention — collapsing those into one figure means either crying wolf or saying nothing until it is too late.
SMART, read properly
Vendors disagree about what their own attributes mean, and a raw field read with the wrong assumption produces confident nonsense. DriveChk interprets each attribute per drive, and cites where that interpretation comes from.
Surface scan
Reads every sector to find the ones that can no longer be read. SMART only counts sectors the drive has already touched; one that quietly failed years ago appears in no counter until something tries to read it. Strictly read-only — it never writes to a drive to “repair” it.
Self-tests
Ask the drive to test its own media and report back, short or extended. The results, including the exact address of any failure, are read straight from the drive's own log.
SSD and hard disk
NVMe, SATA, and USB enclosures with a pass-through driver. Wear and endurance for flash; spin retries, load cycles and reallocation for spinning disks.
Re-check on a schedule, if you want
Leave it running and it re-checks about twice an hour, telling you only when something changes for the worse. Or open it when you want an answer and close it again — it works either way.
